Since 1999, Dr. Johnson has been a staple in the emergency room at Baptist Health-Fort Smith. He’s well known for his ability to put patients at ease and for taking the time to listen to their concerns. Dr. Johnson puts the same time in for his fellow healthcare professionals.
As a state representative, Dr. Johnson has served on city, county and state committees focused on public health, education, welfare and labor. He has also served in leadership roles on Baptist Health-Fort Smith’s Emergency Services Department Committee, Constitution and Bylaws Committee, Peer Review Committee and the Baptist Health-Van Buren Medical Executive Committee. Dr. Johnson also serves as the Medical Director for both Fort Smith and Southwest EMS and a former member of the Good Samaritan Clinic’s board.
The Greenwood native was also a city council member for 10 years. Over the years, he’s also taken an active role in improving the area’s park system to provide healthy outlets for physical activity, which now seems more important than ever as people turn to the outdoors for a safe haven from the Coronavirus.
Dr. Johnson remains heavily involved in the local school system as the volunteer physician for the Greenwood Bulldogs Athletics Program. He was also selected as the keynote speaker at his alma mater’s graduation ceremony in May of 2019, before traditional high school graduations were delayed and replaced with socially distant gatherings or virtual presentations.
Dr. Johnson has been married for more than 25 years to pediatrician Dr. Jennifer Johnson. The couple has raised three children in Greenwood surrounded by family and close friends.
