Why Refer to Baptist Health?
At Baptist Health, your heart failure patient will have access to the most comprehensive set of heart failure management protocols in the state, provided by advanced heart failure and transplant cardiologists.
Baptist Health has offered advanced therapies for over 30 years, starting with the state’s first heart transplant in 1989. Since then, we have successfully performed over 350 heart transplants, and we remain the only hospital in the state to perform adult heart transplants. We also pioneered advanced mechanical circulatory support therapy use in Arkansas and continue to offer these innovative treatments.
At Baptist Health, your heart failure patient will be treated with personalized attention and all the care and skill you will want for them from a tertiary medical center. All patients in our heart failure program will have access to a multidisciplinary team in our hospital – a team that is familiar with the unique needs of immunosuppressed patients and those of mechanical circulatory support. With us, your patient will be in good hands.

Patient Management
Our services are an extension of the excellent care you have already been providing to your patients. We recognize that you provide something we cannot: first-line care right there in your patient’s community.
The good news is that they will not need to go out of state to access advanced therapies and follow-up care. Thanks to your heart failure referral, they can get treatment right here in Arkansas, either in our central Arkansas facilities or in one of our satellite clinics.
As your patient’s heart failure progresses, it is our honor to stand with you and offer the next level of care. Please know that when your patients have acute events and recover, we are going to send them back to you. When their disease is moving toward the end stage, we will initiate a workup for an advanced therapy (LVAD or cardiac transplantation). When this is able to be done as an outpatient, we will make every effort to have some of that done in your local facility to help keep the diagnostic testing dollars where they are needed most—right there in your community.
Once a patient has received an advanced therapy, we will continue their care to ensure their unique needs related to durable mechanical circulatory support and long-term immunosuppression care are attended to according to the highest standards of industry care and practice.
