About the Institute

Committed to Your Heart Health

Heart failure presents a world of challenges that only those with a heart condition understand, but you don’t have to face those obstacles alone. For over 35 years, the Baptist Health Heart Failure & Transplant Institute has offered a seamless care path for advanced heart failure patients who will eventually require advanced heart failure therapies – from medical management to left ventricular assist devices (LVAD) or cardiac transplantation. Our advanced heart failure clinic is here to provide readily available access to treatment and hope for your heart failure.

Baptist Health has a long history of excellence in cardiac care, starting with the first heart transplant in Arkansas in 1989 and followed by a number of milestone medical achievements. Our comprehensive treatments have helped hundreds of patients achieve better outcomes and quality of life.

30+ Years of Advanced Heart Failure Expertise

The Baptist Health Heart Failure & Transplant Institute has long been a leader and trusted choice in heart failure treatment.

Our advanced heart failure clinic performed the state’s first heart transplant in 1989, followed by more than 350 heart transplants since then. We also pioneered left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implants in the state and have since implanted more than 625 of these life-extending devices. We also performed the state’s only total artificial heart implant.

We are motivated to constantly innovate, providing patients with the latest technology and treatment options, including clinical trials that are not available anywhere else in Arkansas. Our advanced heart failure clinic is strengthened by the fact that Baptist Health is the largest healthcare system in the state, with access to health experts across all disciplines.

Innovative Treatments and Patient-Centered Care

An advanced heart failure clinic must constantly be learning, growing and evolving. Some of the life-saving treatments we offer today were not available even five years ago. Our team stays on the cutting edge of heart failure treatments, and our hospital is committed to providing the latest technology needed to save lives.

We treat advanced heart failure patients using the most recent developments in medical management, LVADs and transplants. As a patient in our advanced heart failure clinic, you will have access to the most comprehensive set of heart failure management protocols available.

Research and clinical trials play an important role in our advancement and innovation. We participated in the clinical trial for the development of the HeartMate III LVAD and were one of the top four implant centers in the country for that clinical trial. The FDA approved the HeartMate III for destination therapy in late 2018.

Baptist Health offers what other heart failure clinics in Arkansas cannot: the full scope of advanced therapies. As the largest healthcare system in the state, we take a collaborative approach to every patient’s care. Every treatment plan is informed by experienced cardiologists, surgeons and support staff, as well as experts from other medical disciplines, if necessary. Our advanced heart failure clinic is part of a full-service hospital, and we use all of our resources to determine the best outcome for our patients.
