Jason Mizell, MD

Dr Mizell is a Louisiana native but was recruited to Little Rock after completing his training in colorectal surgery. He initially practiced at UAMS and was active in education, training surgery residents, and research. He was the director of the junior and senior surgery clerkships for 10 years, and then was Program Director for the Transitional Year Program for 4 years. In 2010 he created the Business of Medicine course to address the deficit in personal and business financial education for physicians. The curriculum has been highlighted on multiple national podcasts and blogs, and has been adapted for use at other universities throughout the US as well. The course is the first of its kind in US medical schools, and as a result of his efforts Dr. Mizell was awarded the White Coat Investor Financial Educator of the Year in 2020. He has published multiple papers related to physician financial education and has spoken throughout the US to physicians on the Business of Medicine.

He moved to Baptist Hospital in 2023 to focus more on his surgical practice. He has been married to his wonderful wife Jolie since 2000, and they have 3 busy and wonderful children – Kathryn (17), Gavin (16), and Asher (10). He enjoys spending time with his family and friends, traveling, boating, hiking, and LSU sports. He has participated in medical mission trips to Mexico, Turkey, and Cambodia, and he and his wife lead a local Bible study group in their home.

My priorities are my faith, my family, and my job, and God has given me the opportunity to serve and minister to people through being a surgeon. Surgery, especially cancer related surgery, can be a scary event for patients. I want to do the very best I can to help patients through these difficult times, and take care of them the very best I can.
