Baptist Health Outpatient Dietitian Earns Diabetes Certification

FORT SMITH, Ark. – Holly Plamann, RD, LD, CDE, recently became a nationally Certified Diabetes Educator.

Plamann is an outpatient clinical dietitian at the Baptist Health Nutrition Counseling Center on Lexington Avenue in Fort Smith. While Plamann has served this community for more than two years, this new certification allows the center to expand their services for patients in need of specialized diabetes care. As a Certified Diabetes Educator, Plamann can educate patients on the necessary lifestyle changes involved in a diabetes diagnosis, including carb counting, glucose monitoring and insulin adjustment.

“In this role, I’ll be able to help a patient proactively manage their condition,” Plamann said. “At our center, on average, we are able to lower a patient’s hemoglobin A1C by 1.7 percentage points.”

Plamann earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay in 2015. She joined Baptist Health the following year. As an outpatient clinical dietitian, Plamann provides medical nutrition counseling for patients who may be diagnosed with heart disease, diabetes or issues affecting their digestive system. She also works with patients who wish to lose weight or are preparing for bariatric surgery.
