CONWAY, Ark. –Between gathering supplies, organizing school clothes, learning bus routes and meeting a new teacher, it can be easy to forget about keeping a child’s immunizations up-to-date. To help reduce parents’ stress, Baptist Health Community Outreach will be giving free back-to-school immunizations in Conway on Tuesday, August 2, from 3 to 6 p.m.
Registered nurses will be on hand to administer vaccines from the Baptist Health Mobile Health Unit. The bus will be parked at New Baptist Church, 1232 Watkins Street, where the Baptist Health Community Wellness Center-Conway is located. Parents should bring their child’s shot records so that the immunizations can be officially recorded by the nurse. Medicaid clients must provide proof of coverage.
In addition, Community Outreach will give out backpacks filled with school supplies and personal hygiene kits while supplies last.
Along with hosting projects like the free immunizations, Baptist Health Community Wellness Center-Conway offers free health screenings and services the first Tuesday of each month from 3 to 6 p.m. at New Baptist Church.
Community health nurses provide free blood pressure checks, blood sugar testing, BMI screenings, cholesterol screenings, flu shots and immunizations. Patients can also participate in diabetes, tobacco and health education classes. The purpose of the wellness center is to help residents prevent common health problems through education and to detect health issues early through screenings.
With more than 175 points of access, including eight hospitals, Baptist Health is committed to delivering “All Our Best” in healthcare to the people of Arkansas. For more information about Baptist Health’s community wellness centers, call Baptist Health HealthLine at 1-888-BAPTIST.
