Baptist Health Adds First Fully Robotic-Assisted Surgery System in Little Rock

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The da Vinci® Xi Surgical System represents the cutting edge in surgical and robotic technologies, and Baptist Health Medical Center-Little Rock is the first hospital in Little Rock to have the complete system. While all models of the da Vinci system provide surgeons with superior visualization, enhanced precision and improved dexterity, the Xi model also allows the robot to communicate with the bed for movement, better positioning and improved exposure.

Robotic-assisted surgical systems such as the da Vinci Xi Surgical System have shown to improve the quality of patient care by helping to decrease hospital stays, decrease the conversion of minimally-invasive surgical procedures to open procedures, lower rates of complications from surgery such as bleeding and infection and reduce readmission to the hospital after original discharge. “It’s exciting to bring the latest in robotic technology to our surgeons who’ve seen the positive results this robot is providing,” said Greg Crain, senior vice president and administrator of Baptist Health Medical Center-Little Rock. “Ultimately, it is the patient that benefits and knowing that our healthcare organization now has two fully robotic-assisted systems in central Arkansas means more patients can be reached.”

In 2000, the da Vinci Surgical System became the first FDA cleared minimally invasive, robotic-assisted surgical system for use in general laparoscopic surgery. Since that time, more than three million da Vinci procedures have been completed worldwide in 64 countries and all 50 states in the U.S. Currently, the da Vinci Xi Surgical System may be used for general, urology, gynecology and cardiothoracic surgeries.
