Arkansas Native Rex Nelson to Headline Second Annual Steak Soiree Hospital Fundraiser

HEBER SPRINGS, Ark. – Presented by Camp Bear Track, the second annual Steak Soiree fundraiser benefiting Baptist Health Medical Center-Heber Springs will be held Thursday, August 9, 6:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Heber Springs.

While the world championship steak-grilling team, led by David Nelson of Magnolia, will be cooking up delicious flame-kissed filets, guest speaker and Arkansas native Rex Nelson will be serving up some of his own southern fried musings for attendees.

Nelson is the senior vice president and director of corporate communications at Simmons First National Corp. and is senior editor of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

As one of Arkansas’ premiere writers and speakers, Nelson writes three weekly columns for the state’s newspaper, as well as essays for the cover of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette’s Sunday Perspective section. He’s the author of three books: the first full-length biography of Hillary Rodham Clinton; a biography of Arkansas educator Ben Elrod; and a collection of his essays on Arkansas. He’s also become a popular blogger on his website, RexNelsonsSouthernFried.com, and makes regular television and radio appearances.

Nelson served for almost a decade as the policy and communications director for Gov. Mike Huckabee and served four years in the administration of President George W. Bush as one of the president’s two appointees to the Delta Regional Authority. He has been inducted into the Arkansas Sportscasters and Sportswriters Hall of Fame. In 2016, Gov. Asa Hutchinson and the Arkansas Rural Development Commission named Nelson as its Rural Advocate of the Year for the state of Arkansas.

In addition, Shelton’s Jewelry and Gift Gallery has donated a beautiful Allison-Kaufman Company designed diamond ring valued at $4,400 to be auctioned off at the event. Tickets and sponsorships for this event can be purchased through the Baptist Health Foundation. Individual tickets are $50, and sponsorships range in price from $250 to $2,000. Tickets will be sold at the door until capacity is reached. For more information, please call Emily Mitchell at 660-473-1791.
