Baptist Health Stroke Support Group to Focus on Brain Food

FORT SMITH, Ark. – This month’s stroke support group meeting at Baptist Health-Fort Smith will focus on the power of food.

Gena Pierce, MS, RD, LD, of Baptist Health Nutrition Counseling Center, will discuss key nutrients you can consume to reduce your stroke risk by improving blood pressure, reducing inflammation and improving cardiovascular health.

“One example we’ll discuss is potassium which may help lower blood pressure,” Pierce said. “Consuming foods rich in potassium like leafy greens, beans, nuts, and certain fruits can help your body counteract sodium, which can raise your blood pressure.”

The meeting will be held Friday, Feb. 14, at 9 a.m., in the Baptist Health Classroom on the first floor of Baptist Health-Fort Smith, 1001 Towson Ave. These meetings are open to all members of the community, not just Baptist Health patients.
