LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Baptist Health Foundation was recently awarded $213,000 in grants from the American Cancer Society and National Breast Cancer Foundation for women’s health and oncology initiatives.
Funding was awarded from the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) for two different programs: $123,000 for the Patient Navigation Program and $75,000 for the National Mammography Program.
- The Patient Navigation grant funds help patients and families navigate through the breast cancer services continuum of care, from outreach through treatment completion and survivorship.
- The National Mammography Program provides screening and diagnostic services to medically underserved individuals that include routine and diagnostic mammograms and ultrasounds.
One of the leading breast cancer organizations in the world, National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) is Helping Women Now® by providing early detection, education, and support services to those affected by breast cancer. A recipient of Charity Navigator’s highest 4-star rating for 16 years, NBCF provides support through their National Mammography Program, Patient Navigation, breast health education and patient support programs.
The American Cancer Society recently awarded Baptist Health Foundation $15,000 in grants to provide transportation and lodging assistance to people with cancer during treatment. The grant is part of a nationwide investment of $9 million that is expected to provide nearly 63,000 eligible patients with nearly 800,000 transportation and lodging services.
Access to high-quality cancer treatment impacts cancer outcomes. A lack of the transportation and lodging needed to receive quality care can lead to missed appointments, treatment interruptions, and delays in follow up care. In a 2023 Journal of the National Cancer Institute (JNCI) study, American Cancer Society researchers found that delayed care due to lack of transportation is associated with increased emergency room use and mortality risk among adults with and without cancer history.
