Baptist Health-Fort Smith Welcomes Back Marc Denton Stam, MD

FORT SMITH, Ark.Marc Denton Stam, MD, recently returned to Baptist Health Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery Center-Fort Smith

Dr. Stam has more than 25 years experience in medicine. He was previously a part of the medical staff of Sparks Health System, now Baptist Health-Fort Smith, before leaving in 2018 to join Essential Health-St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, Minnesota. 

As a cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon, Dr. Stam performs many different types of operations, including heart valve repair and replacement, coronary artery bypass, and treatment for AFib, as well as lung surgeries for various pulmonary conditions. He also has extensive experience in the new TAVR procedure for replacing aortic valves without a chest incision, and spearheads the program at Baptist Health-Fort Smith.

Dr. Stam and his wife have three daughters. In his free time, Dr. Stam is an active grandfather, who also enjoys golfing, flying, whitewater rafting, skiing, and scuba diving.

Dakota “Cody” Young, APRN, has also joined the practice. Young provides pre-operative and post-operative care for Dr. Stam’s patients. 

Young most recently worked as a nurse manager in the cardiovascular intensive care unit at Baptist Health-Fort Smith. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith in 2016 and later a Master of Science in Nursing from Walden University. 

Young is originally from Pocola, Oklahoma, but resides in Van Buren with his wife and children. In his free time, he enjoys fly fishing, officiating high school football, spending time outdoors, and spending time with family.
