Baptist Health First in Arkansas to Treat 15,000 Patients Using da Vinci Surgery System

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Baptist Health Medical Center-Little Rock is the first in Arkansas to treat 15,000 patients with da Vinci technology.

Baptist Health received the healing ministry’s first da Vinci system in July 2006 – the original da Vinci S platform. Since then, the health care organization has upgraded to the Si systems and now the fourth generation Xi systems, which is the most up-to-date technology.

“We are thrilled to reach this important milestone, knowing that the true beneficiaries are the thousands of patients who have gone on to see positive results from this technology over the past 16 years,” said Julie Nix, corporate vice president of surgery, women’s and children’s and rehabilitation services for Baptist Health.

The minimally-invasive, robotic-assisted da Vinci surgery boasts enhanced precision for a wide range of gynecological and urological procedures. Surgical systems such as da Vinci have shown to improve the quality of patient care by helping to decrease hospital stays, decrease the conversion of minimally-invasive surgical procedures to open procedures, lower rates of complications from surgery such as bleeding and infection and reduce readmission to the hospital after original discharge.
