Baptist Health Volunteering Opportunities

Customer Service and Patient Satisfaction is our goal. Friendly, smiling faces, a caring compassionate manner, and a positive, willing attitude are at the heart of VOLUNTEER SERVICE at Baptist Health Medical Center - Little Rock, Baptist Health Rehabilitation Institute and Baptist Health Medical Center - North Little Rock.

Baptist Health volunteers make a real difference, whether comforting a sick patient or giving a helping hand to hospital team members. We appreciate our many adult and teen volunteers and consider them an important part of Baptist Health.

STAR Volunteen Program

Baptist Health’s Little Rock and North Little Rock campuses are working in tandem on a summer outreach program for highly motivated youth volunteers.  The STAR Volunteen Program will offer young people the opportunity to learn about careers in healthcare by serving in a variety of hospital departments.

There are several significant changes in our program for 2014, most notably that there will be only one session lasting for seven weeks.  The summer schedule for both the Little Rock and North Little Rock campuses is as follows:

Monday, June 16  - Friday, August 1, 2014

(beginning and concluding one week later than the 2013 program)

Applications will be accepted online beginning on Wednesday, January 1, 2014.  Qualified applicants must:

   * complete the online application

   * be entering (preferably) the 9th - 12th grades during the coming fall semester

   * be available and committed to serve no less than 12 full workdays

   * have completed and handed in ALL application requirements by Wednesday, March 26, 2014

READ CAREFULLY

In addition to the online application, qualified applicants must:

   * obtain a copy of their current report card (minimum 3.0 Grade Point Average)

   * secure 2 letters of reference from a teacher,  principal, guidance counselor, minister, etc.

   * write a 1-page essay (double spaced) on “Why I Want To Be A Volunteen.”

There will be a reduced number of slots for volunteens in 2014. During the month of April, those with all application requirements completed may be screened by (and possibly asked to meet with) a  Selection Committee serving in an advisory role during the selection process.
Selected teens will work 2 full days per week during the 7-week duration of the program.  Participants are required to have a current TB Skin Test, which will be provided by Baptist Health and attend orientation prior to service.  Work schedules and assigned areas are chosen by the program’s volunteer coordinator and any exceptions to the requirements for the summer youth program are at the sole discretion of the coordinator.

As noted, the number of available slots is limited, so early application is recommended.  DEADLINE FOR ALL APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS  IS MARCH 26, 2014.
