Baptist Health Breast Centers

The physicians, nurses and health care professionals at BAPTIST HEALTH realize that breast health is an increasingly important issue in women's lives. Because breast cancer affects one in eight women in the United States, BAPTIST HEALTH has developed a strong, comprehensive program of services for breast health and the diagnosis and treatment of breast disease.

CARING AND CONVENIENCE
The BAPTIST HEALTH Breast Center is designed with your convenience and comfort in mind. We have three easily accessible locations in the Little Rock and North Little Rock area, and each is open extended hours on weekdays to accommodate today's busy schedules.

The Breast Center's warm, pleasant atmosphere ensures your complete privacy. All of our technologists are women and each is registered and certified in mammography.

A SPECIALIST FOR EVERY NEED
The BAPTIST HEALTH Breast Center is supported by multiple specialists with expertise in the treatment of breast disease. Radiologist, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, pathologists, surgeons, and nurses work together to provide a coordinated plan of treatment options appropriate for the individual needs of each patient.

Located in the new Hickingbotham Outpatient Center, the BAPTIST HEALTH Breast Center - Little Rock features 7 mammography rooms, 3 ultrasound rooms, 2 stereotactic biopsy units and one core biopsy unit.

TOMORROW'S TECHNOLOGY, TODAY
You can trust the BAPTIST HEALTH Breast Center to utilize the most advanced diagnostic technology available.

Computer Aided Detection System (CADS)
This technology digitizes breast images and highlights areas on the mammogram which contain features associated with cancer. Upon review of the mammogram by the radiologist, the CADS unit essentially provides the security of a second independent reading. The CAD System is used with screening mammography only.

WE OFFER THREE BREAST BIOPSY PROCEDURES
Ultrasound Guided Biopsy
This procedure is a minimally invasive procedure, removing a small amount of tissue utilizing an ultrasound guided image. It is performed under local anesthetic and takes about one hour.

Stereotactic Biopsy
This type of needle biopsy is used to sample an abnormality seen on a mammogram. Tissue is extracted without open surgery, minimizing physical trauma of breast biopsy.

Breast Localization Procedure
The surgeon may request a breast localization procedure before surgery if the tumor is difficult or impossible to feel by hand. With local anesthesia, a thin wire is placed into the breast to guide the surgeon to the abnormal area during the surgical procedure.

Which procedure is right for you? Only a thorough medical evaluation by your gynecologist or primary care physician in consultation with a radiologist and a surgeon qualified in minimally invasive breast biopsy can make that determination.

DEDICATED BREAST CENTER HEALTH COORDINATORS
Registered nurses offer educational information and one-on-one emotional support to BAPTIST HEALTH patients recently diagnosed with breast cancer. They follow the patient through diagnosis, treatment and recovery. Through the BAPTIST HEALTH Bosom Buddies Breast Cancer Survivor's Network, they can connect patients with other women who, like them, have had to face breast cancer. For more information, contact, DeAnna McAlister, RN, Breast Health Coordinator at (501) 202-7359 or email: dnmcalis@baptist-health.org .

BREAST SELF-EXAMINATION
Breast Self-Examination instruction is available for women at BAPTIST HEALTH Breast Center. Proper self-examination procedure is demonstrated with an educational video.
