Stroke: Overview
TIME LOST IS BRAIN LOST… 1 – 3 HOURS COULD MAKE THE
DIFFERENCE OF A LIFETIME.
If you or someone you know experiences stroke signs and symptoms, call 911 IMMEDIATELY and get to the nearest emergency department. Every minute counts when it comes to stroke emergency care. Don’t wait to see if the stroke signs and symptoms go away. The longer a stroke goes untreated, the greater the damage and potential disability. The success of most treatments depends on how soon a person seeks stroke emergency care at a hospital emergency room after signs and symptoms of a mild stroke begin… therefore, TIME LOST IS BRAIN
LOST.
Stroke signs and symptoms usually occur suddenly; frequently
but not always more than one. The symptoms of a mild stroke are the same as those of a major stroke.
- Sudden numbness, weakness, or paralysis of your face, arm or
leg- usually on one side of your body
- Sudden difficulty speaking or understanding speech
- Sudden blurred, double or decreased vision
- Sudden dizziness, loss of balance or loss of coordination
- Sudden, severe headache or unusual headache, which may or may
not be accompanied by a stiff neck, facial pain, pain between your
eyes, vomiting or altered consciousness
- Confusion, or problems with memory
