Peer Support Outpatient
At Baptist Health Rehabilitation
Institute we believe that individuals who experience the
effects of a stroke can still lead very successful and satisfying
lives. We also recognize that sometimes the best encouragement comes
from others who are dealing with the same challenges.
We
conduct a peer support group, under the leadership of a Neuropsychologist,
twice each week. This group focuses on two primary objectives -
education and emotional adjustment. The educational component helps
stroke survivors to understand their deficits and, therefore, better
comprehend and participate in their rehabilitation program. The
peer group setting allows them the opportunity to discuss their
feelings and share with others who are dealing with the acute effects
of a stroke.
These sessions help our patients adjust to the challenges
and focus on making improvements.
