The Stroke Program at Baptist Health
Rehabilitation Institute (BHRI) is designed for individuals
who have experienced a Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA), also
known as a "brain attack" or stroke. Those who have suffered
a stroke may experience loss of movement (generally on one side
of the body), impaired speech, difficulty swallowing, confusion,
memory loss and decreased emotional control.
While each stroke patient will receive rehabilitation services
specific to their individual needs, the following are among the
special programs offered at BHRI:
Since the trauma of a stroke can cross the entire spectrum of medical,
physical, cognitive, emotional and psychological problems, BHRI
is staffed with a team of caring professionals specially trained
in the treatment of stroke patients. This team includes:

Patients may be referred to BHRI by a physician, family member,
friend or self-referral. A screening examination may be conducted
prior to admission. The cost of treatment is covered as any hospitalization
by Medicare, Medicaid, Workers' Compensation and private insurance
