The Orthopedic Centers of Excellence incorporate a team approach to joint replacement surgery and orthopedic treatments involving the orthopedic surgeon, physician assistant, physical therapists, occupational therapists, nurses, case managers and other professionals. Patients who undergo joint replacement surgery and participate in the Joint Replacement Team are typically happier, which leads to better satisfaction and better outcome from the joint replacement surgery.

As a part of the Orthopedic Center of Excellence, the specialized Joint Replacement Team program provides patients with extensive pre-operative education designed to communicate to patients and their coach (a friend or family member designated by the patient) precisely what to expect throughout the surgery, recovery and rehabilitation.

"Our team of dedicated professionals takes great pride in the years of experience and understanding that we bring to each patient who honors us with their trust. I am excited about the Orthopedic Center of Excellence and the Joint Replacement Team and have seen first-hand the benefits this program provides our patients," said Dr. Richard Nix, orthopedic surgeon.

There are a number of benefits for patients undergoing joint replacement surgery to participate in the Joint Replacement Team. These benefits include a dedicated team who specializes in the care of joint replacement patients, public education seminars about knee and hip pain, comprehensive patient education prior to surgery, a comprehensive patient "playbook" to follow from before surgery until three months after surgery, emphasis on group activities, family and friends educated to participate as "coaches" in the recovery process and a coordinated after-care program.

The goals of the Joint Replacement Team are to improve quality of patient care, increase patient satisfaction, improve outcomes, increase patient knowledge of events to come, reduce length of hospital stay, and increase public awareness of the program. This partnership with BAPTIST HEALTH Medical Center-Little Rock and surgeons from OrthoArkansas was developed to create a comprehensive and planned course of treatment that enables the patient to take an active role in their recovery.
