Laboratory Services

As a Laboratory Professional at BAPTIST HEALTH Medical Center you will have the opportunity to provide quality, patient-centered services to patients of all ages and from all over the state of Arkansas. Using leading edge technology we provide services with Christian compassion and concern for our patients. Our staff has access to various continuing education and in-service programs and our Medical Technologists have access to Career Ladder / Advancement opportunities.

Our Patients

BAPTIST HEALTH exists to provide quality patient-centered services. The goal of the laboratory is to provide accurate, timely, cost efficient, state-of-the-art laboratory testing for physicians, nurses and, ultimately, the patient - and to provide timely communication of those results. We want to be known for the reliability of our results, responsiveness to our customers and their families, and for treating others the way we would like to be treated. We are committed to excellence as we share in the responsibility for overall patient outcome. These goals will be achieved with an attitude of Christian compassion and personal concern demonstrated in honesty, respect, service, stewardship and performance.

Our Staff

The Laboratory in Little Rock is accredited by the College of American Pathologists, meeting or exceeding the requirements under CLIA. In addition, Toxicology is accredited by SAMSHA, Blood Bank is approved by the FDA and all of our facilities – LR, NLR, Heber Springs, and Arkadelphia - are accredited by JCAHO and Arkansas Department of Health.

Equipment and Work Setting

Little Rock:
Provides testing and/or services in the areas of Blood Bank, Serology, Hematology, Coagulation, Chemistry, Microbiology, Mycology, Flow Cytometry, Toxicology and Histology. Services are provided for BHMC-LR (critical care, maternal child, surgical, medical and psychiatric), BHRI, Arkansas Medical Laboratory, BHMC-NLR, BHMC-ARK and physician offices. Testing is performed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Most testing is performed in centralized laboratories but some point-of-care (bedside) testing is done in controlled locations based on patient needs.

Average 3,500,000 tests per year with 35% outpatient tests.

Chemistry: 1 Vitros 250 analyzer, 3 Vitros 950 analyzers, 3 ECI analyzers, 2 Centaur analyzers, 1 Sebia electrophoresis analyzer, 1 Atlas urine analyzer, 1 Sysmex UF-50 urine analyzer, 1 Variant Hemoglobin A1C analyzer and several Abbott analyzers
Hematology: 2 Coulter Gen-S analyzers, 2 Dade Behring CA1500's, and an ACL advance
Blood Bank: Ortho Diagnostics gel system.
Microbiology: BacT Alert for blood cultures, and the Vitek for ID’s
Toxicology: 2 GC mass specs and 2 Hitachi 717's
Flow Cytometery: Coulter Epics XL-MCL
Serology: Dade Behring BN II

North Little Rock:
Provides testing in the areas of Blood Bank, Serology, Hematology, Coagulation, Chemistry, Urinalysis, and Microbiology.

Average 910,000 tests per year with 30% outpatient tests

Chemistry: Vitros 250 Analyzer, Vitros 950 Analyzer, Vitros Eci Analyzer, Stratis Analyzer, and Bayer Immuno I Analyzer.
Hematology: Bayer Advia 120 Analyzer and Coulter Hmx Analyzer
Coagulation: Dade Behring CA-1500 Analyzer and Dade Behring CA-540 Analyzer
Microbiology: BacT Alert for Blood Cultures and Vitek for ID’s

Arkadelphia:
Provides testing and/or services in the areas of Blood Bank, Serology, Hematology, Coagulation, Chemistry, Urinalysis, and Microbiology.

Average 78,000 tests per year.

Chemistry: 1 Vitros 250 analyzer, 1 Vitros ECI analyzer, and 1 Abbott TDX analyzer
Hematology: 1 Beckham Coulter Onyx analyzer, and 1 Dad Behring CA 1500 analyzer
Microbiology: BacT Alert analyzer and Vitek Jr. analyzer

Heber Springs:
Provides testing and/or services in areas of Blood Bank, Serolog, Hematology, Coagulation, Chemistry, Urinalysis, and Microbiology.

Average 125,000 tests per year

Chemistry: 1 Vitros 250 analyzer, 1 Vitros ECI analyzer, and 1 Abbott TDX analyzer
Hematology: 1 Beckham Coulter HMX analyzer, and 1 Dad Behring CA 1500 analyzer
Microbiology: Vitek Jr. analyzer
