Heart attacks and strokes are life-and-death emergencies — every second counts. If you see or have any of these heart attack warning signs or symptoms of a heart attack, immediately call 9-1-1. Not all these signs occur in every attack. Sometimes they go away and return. If some occur, get help fast! Treatment is more effective when given quickly. It's far better to be safe than sorry.
Heart Attack Warning Signs:
According to The American Heart Association, these are the most common symptoms of a heart attack:
- Pain spreading to the shoulders, neck or arms.
- Uncomfortable pressure, fullness, squeezing or pain in the center of the chest lasting more than a few minutes.
- Chest discomfort with lightheadedness, fainting, sweating, nausea or shortness of breath.
Less common heart attack symptoms are...
- Atypical chest pain, stomach or abdominal pain.
- Nausea or dizziness.
- Shortness of breath and difficulty breathing.
- Unexplained anxiety, weakness or fatigue.
- Palpitations, cold sweat or paleness.
