HEALTH Medical Center-Little Rock has always been the leader
in heart care and heart transplantation. The need for donor hearts
far exceeds the availability. The Little Rock facility now offers
the Heart Mate - the latest technology for helping the 5,000,000
Americans suffering from congestive heart failure. The HeartMate
device is implanted alongside the patient's heart to help the natural
heart's pumping capability when required, for activities such as
climbing stairs. The HeartMate allows patients once confined to
intensive care to return home and live with very few restrictions
while awaiting a transplant. This lowers the costs to the patient
and may improve their overall well-being.
