STAR Volunteen Program
Baptist Health's Little Rock and North Little Rock campuses are working in tandem on a summer outreach program for highly motivated youth volunteers. The STAR Volunteen Program will offer young people the opportunity to learn about careers in healthcare by serving in a variety of hospital departments.
One significant change in our program for 2013 is the implementation of two separate and distinct sessions, each lasting three weeks. The summer schedule for both the Little Rock and North Little Rock campuses is as follows:
Session #1: Monday, June 10 - Friday, June 28, 2013
Session #2: Monday, July 8 - Friday, July 26, 2013
Applicants may apply for the session of their choice, but will greatly improve their chances of being selected if they are able to serve during EITHER session. Approximately 30 - 35 slots are available for each session on the Little Rock campus, while 15 - 20 slots are open for each session at our North Little Rock hospital.
Those selected will serve during one session, volunteering 8 hours every day Monday through Friday for three weeks. Qualified applicants must:
• complete the online application
• be entering (preferably) the 9th - 12th grades during the coming fall semester
• be available and committed to serve ALL 15 days during their summer session
• have completed all application requirements by April 1, 2013
READ CAREFULLY
In addition to the online application, qualified applicants must:
• obtain a copy of their current report card (minimum 2.5 Grade Point Average)
• secure a letter of recommendation from a teacher, principal, guidance counselor, minister, etc.
• send both to the campus of choice by April 1, 2013 as shown below:

*Any exceptions to the requirements for the summer youth program are at the sole discretion of the program’s volunteer coordinator.
As noted, the number of available slots is limited, so early application is recommended. DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION IS APRIL 1, 2013. Applicants must attend a "group interview" and if selected, orientation. A TB Skin Test is required and will be provided by Baptist Health prior to service. Volunteens may serve during one session and should be prepared to participate 8 hours per day, 5 days per week for 3 weeks. Work schedules and assigned areas are chosen by the program's Volunteer Coordinator based on the teen's interest and maturity level.
