John
W. Baker, M.D., F.A.C.S. Bariatric & General Surgeon
John W. Baker, M.D., F.A.C.S. is a board certified, Bariatric and
General Surgeon, in solo practice in Little Rock, AR since 1992.
He currently is the Secretary-Treasurer of the American Society
for Bariatric Surgery (ASBS). He has worked on the Professional
Liability, Standards and Research Committees of the ASBS as well.
He also participates in the International Bariatric Surgery Registry
(IBSR) and is on its Medical Advisory Committee. He is the Co-Director
of the Bariatric surgical line at Baptist Health as well as the
Medical Director for the Baptist Health Medical Weight Management
Program. He has been involved in bariatric surgery for 14 ½
years.
The Arkansas State Medical Board asked him to chair a committee
to establish a list of complications for mandated informed consent
for gastric Bypass pursuant to Act 1356 of the Arkansas General
assembly of 2003. He has worked as a peer reviewer for Arkansas
Foundation for Medical Care.
Dr. Baker completed a six year accelerated MD program through LSUMC
–Shreveport in 1983. He completed his General Surgery training
in 1988 at LSU Hospital in Shreveport. He was Chief Administrative
resident from 1987-88. He is a member of American Society for Bariatric
Surgery, IFSO, American College of Surgeons, American Medical Association,
ASPEN, and the Arkansas State Medical Society.
Mark
R. Gibbs, M.D., F.A.C.S. Bariatric & General Surgeon
Dr. Mark Gibbs was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. After graduating
from Baylor University, he attended the University of Arkansas for
Medical Sciences. He completed general surgery residency programs
at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas and the University
of Missouri School of Medicine in Kansas City, Missouri.
Dr. Gibbs is a board certified surgeon and co-director of the BAPTIST
HEALTH Bariatric program. He is a Diplomate of the American Board
of Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He
is a member of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery, and the
Pulaski County Medical Society.
Dr. Gibbs has been in private practice in Little Rock since 1986
and began devoting a large portion of his practice to Bariatric
surgery in the mid 1990s. As an advanced laparoscopic surgeon, he
has traveled the country teaching other surgeons the laparoscopic
gastric bypass procedure.
