Growing older does not always come easy. There are losses, both physical and mental, but happiness should never have to be given up. 
Geriatric Behavioral Health at BAPTIST HEALTH Southwest is a unit that specializes in emotional care and behavioral and mental health for seniors in our community. Our goal is to be able to help our elderly to continue to live a happy and full life as they age. Our 17-bed inpatient geriatric psychiatry unit offers a small and comfortable environment. The therapeutic atmosphere is supported by group activities led by professional staff in a structured setting.
We believe family involvement is very important in maintaining mental health for seniors and we encourage visitation during designated times. Patient referrals for services may be made by anyone (family member, primary care physician, nursing home staff, Pastor, friend, neighbor) and a professional assessment of need will be arranged.
We diagnose and treat the emotional, behavioral and mental issues that may occur in the elderly population:
- Depression
- Sleep, Appetite Disturbances
- Confusion, Disorientation
- Suicidal Thoughts
- Anxiety, Panic Attacks
