Walking Programs
Baptist Health and Park Plaza Mall have teamed up for your health,
with the Baptist Health MallWalkers.
Through
our Mallwalkers Program, we're providing all group members
with access to free monthly blood pressure screenings (on the second
Tuesday of each month), bi-annual Lipid profiles, and a host of
free presentations. Just look for postings throughout the mall to
stay informed of the many upcoming events.
The Mallwalkers Program is designed to encourage aerobic walking for
good health, and to provide a safe, enclosed walking route for all
to enjoy.
To gain greater protection against heart disease, you need to pick
up the speed. A good goal for an average-sized woman is a pace of
3.5 to 4 mph.
To tell how fast you're walking, count how many steps you take
in a minute. A woman with an average stride of 2.5 feet will usually
clock 3.5 mph by taking 120 steps per minute. If she takes 140 steps,
she'll be walking at 4 mph. Someone with a longer stride can obviously
walk a mile in fewer steps and needs to aim for a faster pace.
To boost your walking routine-and burn more calories-try adding
some stairs to your route. And swing those arms to increase your
heart rate and give your upper body a workout, too.
Baptist Health in partnership with the Little Rock Zoo kicked off our brand
new Zoo Walkers Program at the Little Rock Zoo.
The Zoo Walkers Program is designed to encourage aerobic walking
for good health, and to provide a safe, enclosed walking route. It’s
a medical fact that brisk walking is beneficial as an aerobic exercise,
as well as being safe and enjoyable. It doesn’t require expensive
equipment or instruction and can serve as an integral part of an overall
fitness plan that will improve your cardiovascular system’s performance
and lower your risk of heart disease.
Benefits of the Baptist Health Zoo Walkers Program include:
• Different Walking Routes
• Access to free health screenings
• Incentives like t-shirts, water bottles, and pedometers
• Access to special meetings featuring health related and
animal topics
• Discounted entrance to the War Memorial Fitness Center on
rainy days
